ABSTRACT Scientific visualization is playing an increasingly important role in the analysis and interpretation of massively parallel CFD simulations due to the enormous volume of data that can be generated on these machines. In this paper we will describe the development of a visualization technique based on a parallel analogue to the Marching Cubes algorithm. The algorithm has been developed for Multiple-Instruction, Multiple-Data (MIMD) massively parallel computers and is designed to take advantage of the heterogeneous programming capabilities of the MIMD architecture. We examine several different configurations and conclude that for producing animations the best one, in terms of both frame generation time and disk usage, is to run the two applications heterogeneously and send the resulting geometry description directly to a workstation for rendering, thereby totally eliminating the use of files from the animation process.

متن کاملIn-Situ Processing and Visualization for Ultrascale Simulations
The growing power of parallel supercomputers gives scientists the ability to simulate more complex problems at higher fidelity, leading to many high-impact scientific advances. To maximize the utilization of the vast amount of data generated by these simulations, scientists also need scalable solutions for studying their data to different extents and at different abstraction levels. As we move ...
متن کاملAn overview of dynamic resource scheduling on graphics processors
In this paper, we present a series of scheduling approaches targeted for massively parallel architectures, which in combination allow a wider range of algorithms to be executed onmodern graphics processors. At first, we describe a new processing model which enables the efficient execution of dynamic, irregular workloads. Then, we present the currently fastest queuing algorithm for graphics proc...
متن کاملGeneral-purpose Graphics Processing Units Deliver New Capabilities to the Embedded Market
Today’s graphics processors are highly programmable, massively parallel compute engines. With the development of open, industry standards, parallel programming languages such as OpenCLTM and the continued evolution of heterogeneous computing, general-purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs) offer exciting new capabilities for the embedded market. This paper examines some of the industry facto...
متن کاملAn Interactive Visualization Environment for Financial Modeling on Heterogeneous Computing Systems
Financial modeling represents a promising industry application of high performance computing. In previous work, parallel stock option pricing models were developed for the Connection Machine-2 and DECmpp-12000. These parallel model run approximately two orders of magnitude faster than sequential models on high-speed workstations. To further develop this application, a portable, workstation base...
